Preschool is not holding in person instruction right now, it doesn’t mean that we can’t bring some of our favorite preschool themes to your home! Our boxes will include age appropriate materials to keep your preschool-aged child engaged. We have taken our favorite themes from our Preschool program to create an at home learning experience for your child. Plus, you will be connected to one of our certified and experienced preschool teachers. Your child’s teacher will be sharing instructional and engaging videos on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of your 2-week experience. Multiple videos will be posted on these days to guide you and your child through this at-home learning experience! Each box will include materials and guided instruction for two weeks. Register for the themes that interest your child! Virtual learning spots are limited.

March 31: Kids Poster Design Contest
The City of Troy is hosting a poster contest for kids ages 5–12. As all of our buildings reopen at some point later this year (dates still TBD), we want to showcase art made by Troy kids to welcome patrons back! Following the parameters below, we’re accepting submissions until March 31, and we will choose 3 winners to display at Troy Community Center, Troy Public Library, and City Hall. Each winner will receive a $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card and will be recognized by Mayor Ethan Baker.
Contest Parameters
- Posters must be hand made using any media: paint, collage, crayon, marker, etc.
- Posters should be no larger than 24x36 inches and no smaller than 11x17 inches
- Posters should follow the theme of “All in This Together”
- Troy residents only
- Ages 5–12 only
- Parent/Guardian permission required

April 5: Virtual Karate Lessons

A traditional Japanese art which focuses on strong basic blocks, punches, and kicks. Learn self-defense, virtual sparring and complex techniques in order to defend against multiple attackers. Develop balance, coordination, discipline, confidence, courtesy, and endurance. Students can expect to receive a link for a zoom call the day the class starts. Zoom Spanish for Adults
Learn Spanish from the safety and comfort of your own home via the interactive Zoom platform! In this class you will learn conversational Spanish that you can immediately begin using. The class will be tailored to the needs of the students enrolled.
Zoom Spanish Classes for Kids (Ages 3–11)
Join us right from your living room as we explore new cultures and learn the Spanish language via the interactive Zoom platform! Younger children will learn conversational Spanish through fun and interactive activities and music while older children will also learn some Spanish phonetics to begin reading and writing in Spanish.
Zoom Spanish Classes for Middle School Students (Grades 6–8)
This class is a great supplement to middle school or junior high Spanish classes or may also be taken by students not currently enrolled in a school Spanish class. Students will learn Spanish grammar and communication skills that will give them a strong foundation for high school Spanish.
Zoom Spanish Classes for High School Students (Grades 9-12)
This class is a great supplement to high school Spanish classes or may also be taken by students not enrolled in a high school Spanish class. High school students will cover basic grammar points and vocabulary and practice conversational skills. Scholarships available.

April 24: Parent & Me Cooking Class

Cook a meal with Troy business owner and operator of Celebrity Catering, Chef Matt Jenkins! Cook together as a family and make some memories! This is a great opportunity to introduce kitchen skills to your children, with plenty of time for questions with a trained chef!
This class will be LIVE over Zoom. Recommended for grades 5–8. The recipe for the night will be Chicken Piccata. Chef Matt will provide a recipe card with needed ingredients. Only 1 person needs to register for the family. Spots are limited. Sign up with Act #6739-B2.
April 28: Busy Boxes
$15 residents, $18 non-residents | Activities designed for ages 3–7
A box full of fun to keep the little ones busy, for a few hours at least! We’ve curated themed boxes with four activities each box, all supplies included. Parent supervision is needed for all activities, and some are a little messy! Register for the box (or boxes) you want, and come pick it up at a designated time to ensure a safe pick up. Registration for each box will close the Wednesday prior to pick up, and instructions for pick up will be emailed the Friday before.

Code Your Own Roblox Game

Become a Roblox game wiz using Lua! Create versions of your fairytale universe with Roblox. Roblox studio has all the tools to make your wildest gaming imaginations a reality.
In this class, you and other passionate kids will learn how to make use of the many tools on Roblox to code terrific games, relaying your imaginative capabilities to the world. By using Lua, you’ll be creating extensions to the Roblox game while fostering your creativity and learning real-world computer coding.

3D Design

Kids will be introduced to the world of 3D modeling and printing using a simple web-based tool: Tinkercad. Objects can be created by combining simple 3-dimensional geometric shapes with a simple drag-and-drop interface. Shapes can be printed or incorporated into other digital creations. If you can imagine it, you can model it!
Game Based Python

In this class, students will work up to advanced Python coding concepts through interactive lessons and mini-projects. Python is one of the world’s most popular programming languages! This class is not coding based but more real-world economics, city planning, and life management! In Minecraft World Builder, you will be a part of a committee and learn to manage money by building onto your ever-growing city with your peers. All by using the Minecraft World Builder mods!

Unity Game Design

Unity is a game development engine that allows the creation of 2D and 3D games to be made from scratch!
This is a great way to have children have their ideas blossom and create their very own game that anyone can play! This engine helps to build games quickly and efficiently while still learning all the fundamentals of coding needed to be a game programmer!

- Intro (Learn how to customize your game without the complexities of coding in C#, learn about asset management, game design, and some basic physics!)
- Advanced (Students will learn how to create a game using the C# programming language. Students will learn the basics of C# scripting to bring their games to life! Along the way they can expect to learn about variables, functions, syntax, and other essential programming tools!)
