Senior Programs
Troy’s 50+ program provides activities and services to persons 50 and older, but adults of all ages are welcome to register for most programs. The Troy Community Center serves as a focal point to gather for programs offering support, information, activity, socialization and personal growth.
Below, you will find information on classes and programs offered at the Community Center, along with resources offered at the Community Center and through Oakland County. Information will be added quarterly in conjunction with the release of new Fifty Forward Guides. The full list of detailed program and class offerings are listed quarterly in the Fifty Forward and a select few are listed in the Recreation Guide.

Troy Community Center has been offering pickleball since 2009! Dedicated open gym time is available each week for fitness members or with purchase of a day pass. See the current open gym schedule on our hours page.

If you're not ready to commit, stop in with a day pass for $10 Residents, $15 Non-Residents. On Mondays and Fridays, Troy residents ages 60 years and older can buy a day pass at a reduced rate of $8!

Join us for drop in cards/games or help us with our community puzzle! Cards and games are available in room 401A for your use, or you're welcome to bring your own. Please keep supplies in good condition and return them where you found them after play is complete. We currently have decks of cards, Left Right Center, Scrabble, Dominoes, Rummikub, and MORE in our 401A that are ready to be borrowed and played when you drop in!

Drawing Sessions
Draw with confidence and develop self-expression through exploration and practice. Learn about line, shape, value, proportion, perspective and more. Class is designed to challenge and build upon current level of experience whether a beginner, return student or one seeking refresher course. This fun, exhilarating ride also provides up close views of Lake Michigan. Then, we will enjoy 4 hours of Free Time in Downtown Saugatuck for lunch and shopping on your own! - Detroit Princess Riverboat Lunch Cruise - Thursday, August 15
- Enjoy a ride on the Detroit Princess Riverboat! There will be roundtrip transportation to and from the Troy Community Center via modern Motorcoach. Take a midday break from the world and cruise on the Detroit River! This lunch cruise is perfect for seeing the downtown areas of both Detroit and our neighbors in Windsor. Tickets include the cruise, live Motown entertainment and lunch! The lunch menu features a bountiful buffet, including the Chef's choice of dessert! A cash bar will also be available for individual purchase of alcohol, soft drinks and specialty beverages! A Tour Manager from Rybicki Tours will accompany you on this trip.

- A Day in the "D" - Friday, September 20
- Take a trip to Detroit via modern Motorcoach. We will depart the north entrance at 9:45 am, but please arrive 15 minutes before departure. Visit the Detroit Historical Museum - For over 90 years, the Museum has chronicled the life and times of the region, safeguarding its rich history. Enjoy the museum’s 1-Hour Detroit Historical Perspectives Tour with some free time afterward to explore on your own. Lunch included at Buddy’s Pizza- Enjoy a family style lunch including pizza, salad, dessert, non-alcoholic beverage, tax and gratuity. We will then visit the Motown Museum - home to iconic Hitsville U.S.A., Studio A, and an extensive array of Motown artifacts, photographs, apparel and memorabilia. We will return at approximately 4 pm. A Tour Manager from Rybicki Tours will accompany you on this trip.

- Detroit Tigers Game - Thursday, July 30
- Come out to watch the Tigers take on the Cleveland Guardians! We will be sharing our day with our friends from the Madison Heights Active Adult Center. Madison Heights will pick us up with their bus and we will drive downtown to Comerica Park together. Pick up is at 11:30 at the Troy Community Center North Entrance, please arrive by 11:15 to get settled. Our seats will be in section 105. Trip fee includes ticket, $10 food/beverage voucher, and roundtrip transportation.

Travelers ages 50+ are invited to enjoy the best of Mackinac Island at a greatly-reduced, all-inclusive rate! Congregate Hot Lunch: Western Oakland County Meals on Wheels serves a hot lunch Monday–Friday, 11:45 am–12:30 om at the Troy Community Center. 60 years and older $3.50, under the age of 60 $5.00. Menus are available online or in person at the Troy Community Center.
Focus Hope Food Boxes: Boxes of shelf stable food are distributed monthly to those in need. You must be 60 or older with a household monthly income of $1,632 or less ($2,215 or less for a two person household–both can receive food). Find the application by clicking here or call 248.524.3484.
Hospital Equipment Loan Closet: Borrow wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, ramps, toilet chairs, and shower chairs for free. Stop in to Troy Community Center during admin hours to drop off donations or borrow items. Call us ahead of time at 248.524.3484 to check availability of items.
Medicare Counseling: Juliana Lord, certified Medicare/Medicaid AAA1B counselor, offers assistance with enrollment, claims, or denials of service. For Part D enrollment, bring your prescriptions. Appointments required. Schedule your appointment through the Friends of Troy Seniors at 248.526.2608. Availability is Fridays from 10 am–1 pm.
Scholarships are available for Troy Recreation programs for low-income Troy residents 55 and older with an annual income of $24,450 or less for a one-person household or $27,950 or less for two persons. Receive a 25% discount, maximum one class per person per season (two computer classes per season). There is no discount for drop-in programs, trips, sport leagues, and special events. Apply at the Community Center or download the application here. Last year's federal or state form 1040 or MI Homestead form required as proof of income.
Senior Home Assistance Repair Program: (SHARP) is available for Troy homeowners that are either seniors age 60 and over, physically challenged or active military personnel. The goal is to enhance quality of life by making homes safer, and reducing the stress and confusion involved with making home repairs. Labor is provided free by volunteers and supplies are paid for by homeowners. If you need assistance, call SHARP at 248.212.0059.
Tax Preparation: AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers that are trained in cooperation with the IRS provide Tax Preparation services yearly at the Community Center. This Tax Preparation will help low to moderate income taxpayers, especially those 50 and older to prepare their taxes. Call the Friends of Troy Seniors 248.526.2608 in January to make your apppointment for tax preparation on a Friday in February, March, or April.

Free Computer Disc Erasure: 3rd Wednesday of each month, 10 am–12 pm. No registration required, but you must sign in at the door.
SHARP In Home Computer Help: Computer assistance for Seniors (60+) and physically challenged individuals who are Troy residents. Get in-home help using or maintaining your Windows PC. At this time support is not available for Apple products. To set up an appointment, call SHARP at 248.212.0059.
Western Oakland Meals on Wheels: Provides homebound seniors with daily delivery of hot nutritious food delivered by a caring person interested in their safety and well being. Boxed lunch pick ups are also available with reservation at $5 for persons under 60 and $3 for persons above 60. Call 248.223.9160 or visit their website.

Emergency Services from Lighthouse of Oakland County: Low income Oakland County residents in a crisis situation may be able to receive food, housing and utility assistance from Lighthouse. Call 248.920.6100.

PACE Southeast Michigan: PACE Southeast Michigan is a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). PACE Southeast Michigan uses Medicare, Medicaid and private funds to cover all of your medically-necessary care and services. 855.445.4554
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): SNAP helps low-income individuals and families buy the food they need to stay healthy The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) can help Michigan seniors aged 60+ apply and enroll in SNAP benefits. Troy People Concerned: Troy People Concerned (“TPC”) is an information and referral agency. We assist the Troy residents who find themselves in a crisis situation by providing referrals to area agencies or by directly providing financial or other assistance. Veterans Benefits: Oakland County Veteran’s Services has experienced counselors who provide assistance to veterans filing claims or appealing decisions regarding benefits. Call 248.655.1250.
- Legally blind adults can receive education and rehabilitation services from the nonprofit Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Call 313.272.3900.
- The Detroit Radio Information Service (DRIS) is a free closed-circuit broadcast service for blind and print-impaired persons. It offers the reading of local and national newspapers and magazines, TV listings, public service announcements, short stories, store advertisements, and more. Call 313.577.4224 to get a radio.

Tuesday Tunes is a program that we hold on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for 1 hour. We have a scheduled musician play for the group of seniors that register for the program. Sponsors have their business name written in our Fifty Forward guide and on our website calendar. Sponsors are also announced at the concert and are welcome to bring promotional materials to distribute and/or have a table at the event. We accept 1 sponsor per concert. Currently, we are still looking for sponsors for a few months in 2024. We have had between 50 and 75 attendees for this program.
