Senior Programs
Troy’s 50+ program provides activities and services to persons 50 and older, but adults of all ages are welcome to register for most programs. The Troy Community Center serves as a focal point to gather for programs offering support, information, activity, socialization and personal growth.
Below, you will find information on classes and programs offered at the Community Center, along with resources offered at the Community Center and through Oakland County. Information will be added quarterly in conjunction with the release of new Fifty Forward Guides. The full list of detailed program and class offerings are listed quarterly in the Fifty Forward and a select few are listed in the Recreation Guide.

Troy Recreation offers a variety of events for seniors throughout the year! Events have included daytime and evening concerts, birthday party lunches, themed luncheons, and more! See below for more information on current event offerings or check the calendar.
On the first Thursday of each month, join us for a Meals on Wheels lunch with a special treat of cake and ice cream to celebrate the birthdays of that month! Those who have a birthday in that month will have a chance to win a prize.

Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by renowned re-enactor Kevin Wood, relates the history of the USA during his time, from his childhood on the frontier to the turbulent years from 1854 to 1865 which nearly destroyed our young nation but instead eventually resulted in a “new birth of freedom”. Mr. Lincoln quotes from his best-known speeches and writings and brings history to life. Mr. Wood is a professional Lincoln presenter who bears a remarkable resemblance to “the Great Emancipator” and is extremely knowledgeable about his life and times. He has performed as Lincoln over 2,000 times in 33 states and two foreign countries.

Flex Into Fitness: Flex into Fitness is a seasonal pass for a select list of classes to drop into for the season. Attend a few or attend them all! These classes cannot be signed up for individually, you must purchase the pass. Classes take place in our upstairs studios in the Fitness Center. Registrants will receive a key fob for entrance. Make sure to get yours on the first day of class if you registered online.

Get Together: Social Opportunities
The Troy Community Center has always been a place to gather and socialize. While most of our senior programs allow for socialization, some opportunities that we offer are designed specifically for socializing and spending time with others. Join us for drop in cards/games or help us with our community puzzle! Cards and games are available in room 401A for your use, or you're welcome to bring your own. Please keep supplies in good condition and return them where you found them after play is complete. We currently have decks of cards, Left Right Center, Scrabble, Dominoes, Rummikub, and MORE in our 401A that are ready to be borrowed and played when you drop in!

City touring will also include a brief walking tour at Cullen Plaza at the east riverfront and a visit to Third Man Records to see vinyl record pressing! We will also experience an informative driving tour around Belle Isle, followed by a docent-led Maritime History Tour at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. Lunch will be an included full sit down meal at Bayview Yacht Club. House made bread & butter, dessert, nonalcoholic beverage, tax & gratuity also included.

- Flower Day at Eastern Market - Sunday, May 19
- Enjoy a day trip to Detroit via modern Motorcoach. Flower Day takes place every year on the Sunday after Mother’s Day and has been a time-honored tradition of Eastern Market since 1967. Growers offer a wide variety of flowers at a great value so we will be arriving early for the best selection! Enjoy 3.5 hours of free time for Flower Day and all that The Eastern Market Detroit area has to offer!

AARP Driver's Safety Class: Participants must attend both sessions to receive a certificate of completion. $20 for AARP Members and $25 for non-Members in a personal check made payable to “AARP”. NO CREDIT CARDS accepted. Participants MUST bring their Michigan Driver’s license and AARP card, if they have one. Register online and either mail check to 3179 Livernois Rd. Troy, MI 48083 ATTN: Lyndsey Ramsay or bring one with you on the first day of class. The participant may be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance (they need to contact their Agent to find out). Use Act #2114 to Register.
Circle of Friends Memory Cafe: Starting April Memory Cafés are a comfortable, social gathering that allow people experiencing memory loss and a loved one to connect, socialize, and build new support networks. A diagnosis of dementia is not required to attend. It’s a free of charge place to relax, have fun, and meet others. Each month, we will have a theme with activities, interaction, entertainment, snacks, and more! This opportunity is provided in conjunction with the Troy Public Library and the Alzheimer’s Association. Registration is not required, but please make sure to sign in when you arrive.
Focus Hope Food Boxes: Boxes of shelf stable food are distributed monthly to those in need. You must be 60 or older with a household monthly income of $1,632 or less ($2,215 or less for a two person household–both can receive food). Find the application by clicking here or call 248.524.3484.
Hospital Equipment Loan Closet: Borrow wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, ramps, toilet chairs, and shower chairs for free. Stop in to Troy Community Center during admin hours to drop off donations or borrow items. Call us ahead of time at 248.524.3484 to check availability of items.
Medicare Counseling: Juliana Lord, certified Medicare/Medicaid AAA1B counselor, offers assistance with enrollment, claims, or denials of service. For Part D enrollment, bring your prescriptions. Appointments required. Schedule your appointment through the Friends of Troy Seniors at 248.526.2608. Availability is Fridays from 10 am–1 pm.
Scholarships are available for Troy Recreation programs for low-income Troy residents 55 and older with an annual income of $24,450 or less for a one-person household or $27,950 or less for two persons. Receive a 25% discount, maximum one class per person per season (two computer classes per season). There is no discount for drop-in programs, trips, sport leagues, and special events. Apply at the Community Center or download the application here. Last year's federal or state form 1040 or MI Homestead form required as proof of income.
Senior Home Assistance Repair Program: (SHARP) is available for Troy homeowners that are either seniors age 60 and over, physically challenged or active military personnel. The goal is to enhance quality of life by making homes safer, and reducing the stress and confusion involved with making home repairs. Labor is provided free by volunteers and supplies are paid for by homeowners. If you need assistance, call SHARP at 248.212.0059.
Tax Preparation: AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers that are trained in cooperation with the IRS provide Tax Preparation services yearly at the Community Center. This Tax Preparation will help low to moderate income taxpayers, especially those 50 and older to prepare their taxes. Call the Friends of Troy Seniors 248.526.2608 in January to make your apppointment for tax preparation on a Friday in February, March, or April.

Free Computer Disc Erasure: 3rd Wednesday of each month, 10 am–12 pm. No registration required, but you must sign in at the door.
SHARP In Home Computer Help: Computer assistance for Seniors (60+) and physically challenged individuals who are Troy residents. Get in-home help using or maintaining your Windows PC. At this time support is not available for Apple products. To set up an appointment, call SHARP at 248.212.0059.
Western Oakland Meals on Wheels: Provides homebound seniors with daily delivery of hot nutritious food delivered by a caring person interested in their safety and well being. Boxed lunch pick ups are also available with reservation at $5 for persons under 60 and $3 for persons above 60. Call 248.223.9160 or visit their website.

Circle of Friends Memory Cafe: Starting April Memory Cafés are a comfortable, social gathering that allow people experiencing memory loss and a loved one to connect, socialize, and build new support networks. A diagnosis of dementia is not required to attend. It’s a free of charge place to relax, have fun, and meet others. Each month, we will have a theme with activities, interaction, entertainment, snacks, and more! This opportunity is provided in conjunction with the Troy Public Library and the Alzheimer’s Association. Registration is not required, but please make sure to sign in when you arrive.

Focus Hope Food Boxes: Boxes of shelf stable food are distributed monthly to those in need. You must be 60 or older with a household monthly income of $1,632 or less ($2,215 or less for a two person household–both can receive food). Find the application by clicking here or call 248.524.3484.
Hospital Equipment Loan Closet: Borrow wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, ramps, toilet chairs, and shower chairs for free. Stop in to Troy Community Center during admin hours to drop off donations or borrow items. Call us ahead of time at 248.524.3484 to check availability of items.
Medicare Counseling: Juliana Lord, certified Medicare/Medicaid AAA1B counselor, offers assistance with enrollment, claims, or denials of service. For Part D enrollment, bring your prescriptions. Appointments required. Schedule your appointment through the Friends of Troy Seniors at 248.526.2608. Availability is Fridays from 10 am–1 pm.
Scholarships are available for Troy Recreation programs for low-income Troy residents 55 and older with an annual income of $24,450 or less for a one-person household or $27,950 or less for two persons. Receive a 25% discount, maximum one class per person per season (two computer classes per season). There is no discount for drop-in programs, trips, sport leagues, and special events. Apply at the Community Center or download the application here. Last year's federal or state form 1040 or MI Homestead form required as proof of income.
Senior Home Assistance Repair Program: (SHARP) is available for Troy homeowners that are either seniors age 60 and over, physically challenged or active military personnel. The goal is to enhance quality of life by making homes safer, and reducing the stress and confusion involved with making home repairs. Labor is provided free by volunteers and supplies are paid for by homeowners. If you need assistance, call SHARP at 248.212.0059.
Tax Preparation: AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers that are trained in cooperation with the IRS provide Tax Preparation services yearly at the Community Center. This Tax Preparation will help low to moderate income taxpayers, especially those 50 and older to prepare their taxes. Call the Friends of Troy Seniors 248.526.2608 in January to make your apppointment for tax preparation on a Friday in February, March, or April.

Western Oakland Meals on Wheels: Provides homebound seniors with daily delivery of hot nutritious food delivered by a caring person interested in their safety and well being. Tuesday Tunes is a program that we hold on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for 1 hour. We have a scheduled musician play for the group of seniors that register for the program. Sponsors have their business name written in our Fifty Forward guide and on our website calendar. Sponsors are also announced at the concert and are welcome to bring promotional materials to distribute and/or have a table at the event. We accept 1 sponsor per concert. Currently, we are still looking for sponsors for a few months in 2024. We have had between 50 and 75 attendees for this program.
